MOPP 2009 CLOSING PARTY & EXHIBITION

The Camissa Collective and MOPP are really excited about our closing party. And you should be too.

R10 gets you into possibly the coolest party this month.

Directions:
ROUTE ONE
If you head along ROELAND STREET from PARLIMENT you will come to a 4 way traffic light (the corner of BUITENKANT and ROELAND). Carry on STRAIGHT through the traffic light and take the FIRST LEFT into HARRINGTON Street. The Assembly is down the road on your RIGHT.
ROUTE TWO
If you are on DE WAAL Drive heading into town, carry on straight past the GARDENS turn-off, past VIGLIETTI, and at the next traffic light turn RIGHT into CANTERBURY. Take your FIRST LEFT into COMMERCIAL, then the FIRST RIGHT into HARRINGTON and down the road a little way you will find The Assembly on your RIGHT.
ROUTE THREE
If you are heading towards CAPE TECHNIKON on DARLING street, go past the PARADE on your LEFT and through the traffic lights – with the CASTLE on your LEFT, turn RIGHT into HARRINGTON Street, head over the first stop street and The Assembly will be on your LEFT.

MOPP 2009 week 4 — GRASSY PARK

There’s been a lot of interest during the past week about the next part of the Month of Peoples’ Photography, so here are some details about the Grassy Park exhibition, which is the fourth and last week of the MOPP 2009 Traveling Exhibition. Grassy Park Library ~ 23 to 29 May 2009.


For all the people from the city: Fear not, the full exhibition will appear in Assembly on Saturday 30 May – more details to follow about this party/exhibition/party soon…


There will be a workshop in the Grassy Park Library on Saturday morning from 10am, in the form of a beginners lesson in photography. Registration at 9:30am.

The exhibition will remain on display in the library for the next week, until Friday 29 May 2009. If you haven’t seen the exhibition yet, and you’re in the area, then come around sometime during the last week of May!

Bring your own photo(s) along as well! As part of the Traveling Exhibition, we make space available for anyone, to bring their own photographs along to the exhibition, and add it to the OPEN WALL - it’s like a blank canvas for anyone to “paint” on! Photos can be printed on any light material (block mounting and glass framed pictures will be too heavy), colour or black&white, should  somehow be related to the theme “Maybe tomorrow”, and ideally shouldn’t be larger than A4 size.

Directions to Grassy Park Library:

The library is at Market Square, which is at Busy Corner – this is the corner of Victoria Rd and 5th Ave (5th Ave = Retreat Rd). The library is very close to the police station, so look out for the signs. Parking available on Market Square, in front of the library.

From the N2: Take the M5 southbound, and carry on for ±14km, until you get to the Victoria Rd turnoff into Grassy Park – turn left into Victoria Rd, and carry on straight down Victoria for ±1km, until you get to Market Square on your right.

From the south: Get onto the M5 northbound from the R310 (Royal Rd / Baden Powell Dr). Turn right into 5th Ave (Retreat Rd). Turn left into Victoria Rd at Busy Corner, and immediately left again into Market Square.

From the east: There is a 5th Ave turnoff from Strandfontein Rd (M17). Take this turnoff, and head west until you get to Victoria Rd – turn right here into Victoria, and immediately left into Market Square.

MOPP 2009 week 3 — MITCHELLS PLAIN

Halfway through the month… Saturday 16 May 2009 is the opening of the third installment of MOPP 2009, with a workshop in the Mitchells Plain Library (at the town centre – it’s in 1st Avenue, opposite the police station). Once again, the exhibition will remain on display in the library for the next week, until Friday 22 May 2009.

Directions to Mitchells Plain Library: From Vanguard Drive (M7 and N7), head south for about 15 kms. Turn left into Wespoort Drive. Follow this road until Wespoort Drive intersects with AZ Berman Drive (M36). At this intersection, turn right into AZ Berman and then turn right at the next traffic light into Imperial Street. 50 metres further turn right into 1st Avenue. The library is now directly to your left. Turn left from 1st Avenue into parking lot (directly behind the library).

MOPP 2009 week 2 — GUGULETHU

On Saturday 9 May 2009 we open the Second Week of the 2009 Month of Peoples’ Photography in Gugulethu Library, with a workshop in photography for the children in the area. The exhibition will remain on display in the library for the next week, until Friday 15 May 2009.

At this stage we’ve got almost 130 images from almost 20 photographers on display, and the exhibition continues to grow with additional works being submitted as part of the Open Wall.  You’re welcome to bring your image(s) along as well! Directions: The library is in NY 144, Gugulethu.

From the N2:  Take the Gugulethu turnoff (exit 15) southbound, into Duinefontein Road (M10).

At the first traffic light, turn left into Klipfontein Road (M18).

This will take you over the railway bridge, and brings you to the first set of traffic lights, where Klipfontein intersects NY 1. Turn right here, into NY 1 southbound. Look for MOPP signs.

Only 50 meters further, turn left into NY 144  (this is a quick turnoff – if you miss it, turn around, and look for the police station – NY 144 is directly opposite the police station).

The library is halfway down NY 144.
