As a photographer i love to capture people’s essence. emotive
portraits which tell a story about the person. most of my work has a
moody edge to it, i guess this is my influence towards my photos, as i
am quite a moody person. its very important to me to make the people i
photograph relax, and act natural. i enjoy speaking to them and
finding out more about them, it’s usually when they are loosing
themselves in conversation by talking about themselves to me, that i
capture the images.I am inspired by these people, everyone has a story
to tell, and i feel privileged that they show me a piece of thier
soul. thats what i love about photography, capturing moments in time
filled with emotion and a story.

Invite to Photo exhibition in Nyanga .This Saturday 17th in Nyanga between 12 noon and 4pm.

We managed to have a correspondent there, further down on this blog entery u will find some reportage .

Hello Friends,

As many of you know, I(Alistair Berg) have been working with the
Iliso Labantu PhotoCollective, a group of more than twenty photographers from townships aroundCape Town. The group has been working together for more than three years todocument life in their own communities. And, they have been doing it one neighborhood at a time through their ‘Flash Photo Weekends’For 48 hours, from dawn on Friday morning to sundown on Saturday evening, the group fans out across a particular neighborhood to document the area.Last weekend, the group descended on the few remaining single dwellinghostels in Nyanga.

These hostels, originally built to house single menworking in Cape Town, are divided into four rooms. Each room is home to afamily. In some cases, as many as 12 people share a space as small as 4meters by 3 meters. Often the photographers had to photograph fromoutside a window as the space was too small to set up a camera inside.

The group has already documented Site C, Khayalitsha; Du Noon; and ImizamoYethu. This is their fourth neighborhood project. ‘People were warm andappreciative’, says Mandla Mnyakama. ‘They want their lives documented sothat their children will know where they came from, and they are happy for the exposure…

Please come to the exhibition! It’s quite easy to get there….Take the Borchards Quarry turn off from the N2, then follow signs to NyangaCrossroads, Keep straight on through a four-way stop at Miller streetand the exhibition space is 100m up on the left hand side of the road - it will be on the fence of the Old Apostolic Church. Ifyou reach the Police Station (on your right) you have gone too far butsuitable parking is available in front of the Police Station
